The image that best describes my own learning experience as a teacher in this program is a ‘Teacher as Learned Practitioner’. Teaching is a variety of disciplines. Teachers need to learn how to teach, know the subject areas, classroom management techniques among various other methods. Teachers learn from their mistakes through trial and error in the classroom. What worked well and what didn’t in almost every lesson they teach. Teachers have the ability to allow students to question knowledge that makes them uncomfortable or challenge ideas. This is known as ‘troubling knowledge’. This allows the students to think critically and explore different views. This learning allows the students to engage in discussion rather than just sit their and listen. This gives them the confidence to ask questions, speak up in class and allows the teacher different insights on how the students are learning.
